Ornithological Inspirations

I’ve always been intrigued by birds, their habits, skills and colors. I’ve recently seen an amazing BBC Nature series called Earth 2 and if you haven’t seen it and love nature it’s worth watching. After watching, I was inspired to do a piece as a tribute to the amazing ornithological world. It’s not based on any particular species or color pattern but my own species of a bird that I found in my head. Let me know what you think.

First Piece of 2017 inspired by Domenico Scarlatti

So I took a little break but finally painted my first piece of 2017 which was inspired by listening to some sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti by way of a couple of CD’s gifted to me from my good friend, Bill.

The piece is called: “Scarlatti Discovers A New Key“. To me it signifies discovery and wonderment as I enjoyed listening to the sonatas for the first time. I hope that 2017 will be the same for all.

Lake Travis Library Solo Show July 2016

Thanks to all that came and supported the arts at the show. We add wonderfully catered food prepared by my wife to add to the special occasion. There were 55 pieces on display and with lots of wonderful feedback on how it was presented and displayed. We sold 12 pieces which in itself was amazing. All sizes of artwork from 1.5″ x 1.5″ to 14″ x 17″ where on display with over half of the works recently created.

A Painting Tribute to Alan Rickman

One of my favorite actors, Alan Rickman passed on January 14th of this year.  I’ve been mulling over doing a special piece dedicated to him and finally sat down last night to do so.  I tried to using colors and shapes to represent joy rather than sadness since that’s what I feel when I look back and appreciate his talent.  He was one of the few people I would have liked to have met.

I started with a color palette slightly different than my usual colors on 10″ x 14″ Watercolor paper using acrylic inks to create the wash.

Then added the ink framework and then the fills for balance.

Started to add light and color to further balance the image.  I don’t usually paint with white but felt that light was needed.

New Exhibits Scheduled in July and August

I just received an invitation to exhibit works at Wall Street Gallery in Prosperity Bank in Lakeway between August 1st. and October 3rd.

The address is: 1415 RM 620 S., in Lakeway

Stop by 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays

For the month of July I will be also doing a solo exhibit at the Lake Travis Community Library between July 1st and July 30th.  I will have a reception for that one and once I have the date I will post it.

Art Gallery Show and Reception December 11th between 6-8 pm
